Natural, long, shiny, and perfectly smooth hair. That sounds like my hair one day after a keratin session. And then it instantly turns into a fluffy disaster that can’t be fixed. Does your hair relate to this situation? Well then you’re in the right place: In this post, I’ll show you how I make my hair straight and silky naturally so you can apply to yours.
The hair straightening methods used here are natural and cheap as compared to keratin, and will keep your hair absolutely under control.
8 Ways to Make Hair Straight and Silky Naturally
1. Rice and Coconut milk remedy
Among all the hair straightening methods shown here, this one is my favorites. The best part is that the ingredients for this remedy are so basic.
Take four (4) large teaspoons of rice (white or brown, doesn’t really matter). Rice works like magic on damaged hair and helps prevent hair loss and dandruff from scalp. Mix the rice with 2 cups of water. Boil the rice until all the water is gone. Let it cool, and then grate it. I use a regular grater and it works just fine.
Add 1 Tablespoon of starch and 1 teaspoon of coconut milk. Coconut milk smells good and makes your hair grow faster because it’s rich in Potassium, Iron, Essential fats, and Vitamin E. All of these give your hair plenty of moisture.
The final ingredient is either 1 teaspoon of coconut oil or olive oil. This will make your hair stronger and beautiful.
Stir thoroughly to make a creamy mixture. When the mixture is ready, it’s time to apply it to your hair. Don’t be lazy, and just apply it to throughout your hair.
Separate your hair into small sections. And go from your scalp to the ends of the hair, massaging it lightly. Once you’re done applying it, put on the shower cap and let it sit for at least 2 hours. If you’re patient enough, you can even leave it overnight – it won’t do you any harm.
Lastly, wash it up with water until your hair is clean and clear. Then wash it once again with shampoo. Not only did it make my hair smooth, but also healthier, shiny and full of life. It creates a kind of natural parcel around your hair. You can now go out in the rain or style your hair using heat – and it still looks naturally silky and straight.
2. Hot Oil Treatment
While the first remedy for naturally straightening hair is my personal favorite, I still wanted to spice things up and experiment with others. So I found more solutions online and tested them all.
Take 1 teaspoon of castor oil and 1 tablespoon of coconut oil. Mix them together and heat for a couple of minutes in a microwave or oven. It has to be slightly warm but not boiling hot. It takes only 2 minutes to get the mix ready. Now you can apply to your scalp and hair. Make sure your hair takes in enough of it and give your scalp a 15-minute massage. After that, leave the remedy on for 30 minutes.
Wash it off with cool water and then shampoo your hair. I personally prefer sulfate-free shampoos because they’re more delicate on your hair. You can repeat the process twice a week and you’ll notice real results.
Castor oil is a natural hair conditioner and can do miracles repairing your hair. It helped me combat my frizzy hair and didn’t make it dry. It left it soft and moisturized.
3. Milk Spray
Today it feels like you can choose from 500 hair spray varieties. But I prefer to know what’s actually in the bottle – so I made it myself. All it takes is a quarter of a cup of milk and an empty spray bottle.
Simply pour some milk into a spray bottle. Spray it into your hair until your hair gets saturated and leave it for 30 minutes. Milk is rich in proteins which help strengthen your hair and get rid off frizz making your hair look smoother.
After the treatment is finished, rinse your hair with regular cool water. Once or twice a week is enough for this procedure. It didn’t give me immediate result, but you can get there if you do it regularly.
4. Eggs and Olive oil mix
Eggs are very rich in proteins while olive oil works like a natural hair conditioner. Together, they nourish your hair and make it silky and smooth.
Mix 2 eggs with 3 tablespoons of olive oil and put the mixture onto your hair for about an hour. Then wash it off with cool water and a mild shampoo. Once a week is an optimal frequency for this hair straightening procedure.
5. Aloe Vera Remedy
Aloe vera is a universal remedy for treating just about anything and of course it does not exclude natural hair care. The enzymes in aloe vera work like natural hair softeners to straighten frizz and kinks. Plus, if you want to grow long silky hair, aloe vera will be your best friend.
Heat 1/4 cup of coconut oil or olive oil. Add 1/4 cup of aloe vera gel and mix well. Leave the remedy on your hair for about 40 minutes. You’ll love how it smells and feels.
When it’s time, wash it off with cool water and a mild shampoo. Do this once a week.
6. Coconut milk and Lemon juice treatment
This natural hair straightening remedy smells so good you might be tempted to ingest. Well, stay strong and let the lemon juice give your scalp a boost of vitamin C. Coconut milk will only make the effect stronger, and you’re gonna love how silky straight your hair is becoming.
I like this treatment because the results are immediate. And you have to repeat it just once a week to have the effect. The only problem is for impatient people. You have to leave the mixture for overnight for it to be ready.
Fairly mix 1/4 cup of coconut milk with 1 tablespoon of lemon juice. Put it in the fridge for the night. In the morning, cover your hair with the mixture, moving from the roots to the ends. After 30 minutes, wash it off with cool water and a mild shampoo to reveal your natural, silky straight hair.
7. Banana, Curds, and Olive oil mix
Here comes the recipe for those who like complicated solutions with multiple ingredients.
What you’ll need:
- 2 ripe bananas
- 2 tablespoons of honey
- 2 tablespoons of olive oil
- 2 tablespoons of curds.
Blend the bananas till it’s lump-free. Add the remaining ingredients and mix well. Leave the remedy on your hair for an hour before you wash it off with cool water and a mild shampoo.
The mixture does not only smell good but also works like magic in making your hair straight and silky. You should do this for at most twice a week.
8. Straighten your hair with hair bands
If you need your hair to be straight tomorrow by any means possible and don’t want to expose it to flat iron, this is what I recommend:
- Wash your hair with shampoo and conditioner before going to bed.
- Dry your hair with a microfiber towel gently so you don’t break it.
- Comb your hair with a detangling comb and make two (2) pink tails.
- Use elastic hair bands to secure the pink tails.
- Wrap the bands along the pink tails every 2-3 inches (5-8 cm). Be careful not to tighten the pink tails too tightly to avoid bumps.
- Finally, cover hair with silk scarf and secure with bobby pins. It’ll help you avoid losing moisture and reduce frizz. That’s all, just go to bed.
